About // The Engineering Log
I am Sefa Önder, a software engineer and Master's student.
I've spent the last few years shipping production web applications in Vue.js, React, and TypeScript. Most of the work was reactive UIs, async event pipelines, and cross-platform clients. Over time, recurring headaches with latency, fragile state sync, and bloated runtimes pushed me to look deeper into the underlying systems.
That led to a Master's program in computer and systems engineering in Germany. Now I split time between academic study and building software that keeps state on the client, works offline, and avoids external runtime dependencies where possible. This site is where I log what I'm working on and what I'm learning.
// 01_ENGINEERING_PHILOSOPHY
THE BROWSER IS AN OPERATING SYSTEM, NOT A DUMB TERMINAL
A 200ms network roundtrip to toggle a checkbox is a design failure. Modern client machines have enough compute and storage to run independently. The network should be an async sync channel, not a hard dependency.
MECHANICAL SYMPATHY OVER FRAMEWORK HYSTERIA
Know how V8 allocates objects, how the browser event loop schedules frames, and what IndexedDB or Web Workers actually cost before reaching for another npm package. Native browser primitives usually outperform the runtime plumbing.
LONGEVITY AS A PRIMARY FEATURE
Frameworks rise and die on 18-month cycles. Proprietary clouds shut down with 30 days notice. Open file formats, portable local data, and minimal build-step ceremony mean the software still works a decade from now.
